After you apply

Your application should be approved or denied within 30 to 45 days.

If you don’t hear from the Department within 45 days, call that office and ask to speak with someone in the Intake Unit.

If your application is not approved or denied within 45 days, or if you feel that your application was incorrectly denied, contact the legal services office for your area.

If you are found eligible for the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary Program, the Department will issue you a Medicaid card which you can use when you obtain health care services.  The Department will make arrangements with the Social Security Administration so that Medicare premiums are no longer deducted from your Social Security checks.  This process may take up to three months.

If you are found eligible for the Specified Low-Income or Additional Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary Program, the Department will make arrangements with the Social Security Administration so that Medicare premiums are no longer deducted from your Social Security checks. This process may take up to three months.
